  4. IBM 4039 LaserPrinter PCL Driver
  5. for Lotus 1-2-3 for DOS, Releases 2.3 and 2.4

  7. Release Note:  The drivers contained on this disk cannot utilize the
  8. resident scalable or bitmapped PCL5 fonts available on the IBM 4039
  9. LaserPrinter.  This driver only utilizes Bitstream soft fonts and fonts
  10. available from within your 1-2-3 for DOS package.

  28. II.  Installation Instructions:
  29.  
  30.    1.  Make the location where you have Lotus 1-2-3 for DOS, Release
  31.        2.3 or 2.4 the current drive and directory.
  32.  
  33.    2.  Type INSTALL and press ENTER.
  34.  
  35.    3.  At the "Lotus Install Program ....." screen, press ENTER.
  36.  
  37.    4.  At the "Main Menu" screen, highlight "Change Selected Equipment"
  38.        and press ENTER.
  39.  
  40.    5.  At the "Change Selected Equipment" screen, highlight "Add New
  41.        Drivers to Library" and press ENTER.
  42.  
  43.    6.  Specify the letter of the drive which contains Driver Disk 1 of
  44.        the IBM LaserPrinter 4039 Installation Utilities, and press ENTER.
  45.  
  46.    7.  At the "Change Selected Equipment" screen, highlight "Modify
  47.        Current Driver Set" and press ENTER.
  48.  
  49.    8.  At the "Modify Current Driver Set" screen, highlight "Text Printer"
  50.        and press ENTER.

  52.    9.  At the "Text Printer Selection" screen, highlight "IBM" and
  53.        press ENTER.

  55.   10.  At the second "Text Printer Selection" screen, highlight
  56.        "4039 LaserPrinter Series" and press ENTER.

  58.   11.  At the "Modify Current Driver Set" screen, highlight "Graphics Printer"
  59.        and press ENTER.

  61.   12.  At the "Graphics Printer Selection" screen, highlight "IBM" and
  62.        press ENTER.

  64.   13.  At the second "Graphics Printer Selection" screen, highlight
  65.        "4039 LaserPrinter Series" and press ENTER.

  67.   14.  If you wish to install PostScript drivers for your IBM 4039
  68.        LaserPrinter continue with step 15.  Otherwise skip to step 22.
  69.  
  70.   15.  CAUTION:
  71.        In TEXT mode, Lotus 1-2-3 only sends the PostScript header
  72.        information to the printer at the beginning of the spreadsheet text
  73.        print session.  This information is necessary to communicate with
  74.        the PostScript interpreter in the printer.
  75.  
  76.        If the printer is reset between spreadsheet print jobs, either
  77.        manually, by LAN action, or other means, this header information
  78.        is lost.  Without a header the print output is unpredictable.
  79.  
  80.        WE RECOMMEND USING PostScript ONLY FOR WYSIWYG GRAPHICS PRINTING.
  81.  
  82.        To install BOTH TEXT AND GRAPHICS postscript drivers continue
  83.        with step 16.
  84.  
  85.        To install JUST THE GRAPHICS PostScript driver continue with
  86.        step 19.

  88.   16.  At the "Modify Current Driver Set" screen, highlight "Text Printer"
  89.        and press ENTER.
  90.  
  91.   17.  At the "Text Printer Selection" screen, highlight "PostScript" and
  92.        press ENTER.
  93.  
  94.   18.  At the second "Text Printer Selection" screen, highlight the desired
  95.        selection and press ENTER.
  96.  
  97.   19.  At the "Modify Current Driver Set" screen, highlight "Graphics Printer"
  98.        and press ENTER.
  99.  
  100.   20.  At the "Graphics Printer Selection" screen, highlight "PostScript" and
  101.        press ENTER.

  103.   21.  At the second "Graphics Printer Selection" screen, highlight
  104.        "Compatible (B&W or color)" and press ENTER.

  106.   22.  At the "Modify Current Driver Set" screen, highlight "Return to
  107.        Previous Menu" and press ENTER.

  109.   23.  At the "Change Selected Equipment" screen, highlight "Save the
  110.        Current Driver Set" and press ENTER.

  112.   24.  At the "Saving Your Changes" screen:

  114.            To accept the name displayed, press ENTER.
  115.            To change the name, follow on-screen instructions.
  116.            If unsure, accept default name by pressing ENTER.
  117.  
  118.   25.  At the "Generating Fonts" screen, press ENTER.
  119.  
  120.   26.  At the next screen you may select a set (Basic, Medium, or
  121.        Extended) of font sizes to generate. The more extensive the font
  122.        set, the more disk space required, and the longer it takes to do
  123.        the generation. NOTE - See "Generating Fonts" in your Lotus 1-2-3
  124.        for DOS manuals for more information.  After highlighting your
  125.        your choice, press ENTER.
  126.  
  127.   27.  If you selected Basic, skip to Step 30.
  128.  
  129.   28.  If you chose Medium or Extended, you will be asked "Do you want
  130.        to generate WYSIWYG fonts now?"  Answer "Yes" and Install will
  131.        generate the fonts now and you should skip to Step 30.
  132.  
  133.   29.  If you Answered "No" you may generate the fonts later by using
  134.        the Fontgen program.  You will be at the "Main Menu" screen.
  135.        Highlight "End Install" and press ENTER.  Go to Step 32.
  136.  
  137.   30.  After the completion of font generation you will get a "Install
  138.        successfully generated the fonts......" message.  Press any key to
  139.        end Install. Installation is complete.  Skip to Step 32.

  141.   31.  At the "End Install" screen, highlight "Yes" and press ENTER to end
  142.        Install.
  143.  
  144.   32.  To select your new driver for use in Lotus 1-2-3, start Lotus
  145.        by Typing 123 and Pressing ENTER.  When the spreadsheet screen
  146.        appears, Type / and then Select Worksheet, Global, Default,
  147.        Printer, Name and choose "IBM 4039 LaserPrinter Series" or
  148.        "PostScript."  (see CAUTION in step 15 re using PostScript for
  149.        text printing.)  Press ENTER.
  150.  
  151.   33.  At this point you may check (or alter) your printer port
  152.        connection by Selecting Interface.  You have several Interface
  153.        options.  For best performance select one of the parallel or
  154.        serial options.  "Parallel 1" (1) is the usual connection.
  155.        If you are using AES, you must select one of the "Output
  156.        Device" selections:  usually "Output Device LPT1" (5).
  157.        Make your choice and press ENTER.
  158.  
  159.   34.  Select Quit once.  Select Update to save the settings you just
  160.        made.
  161.  
  162.   35.  Select Quit.  Your selected printer driver is now ready for use
  163.        with Lotus 1-2-3 for DOS in text mode.
  164.  
  165.   36.  To select the IBM 4039 LaserPrinter for use in WYSIWYG mode,
  166.        activate the WYSIWYG addin if it is not already activated,
  167.        and then proceed to the next step.

  169.   37.  Type   : and then select Print, Config, Printer, and choose
  170.        "IBM 4039 Series Laserprinter Ext Cap" for PCL or "PostScript
  171.        Compatible" for PostScript.  Press ENTER and select Quit, Quit.

  173.   38.  To save this WYSIWYG settings as your system default,
  174.        type   : and then select Display, Default, Update, Quit.
